Starting from March 1, 2024, you can obtain a copy of the family register(Koseki Tohon) of you or your spouse and immediate family members (parents, grandparents, children, and grandchildren) at the municipality where you are registered as a resident in addition to that of your official place of domicile.
A copy of the family register is always required for those who are married to a Japanese national and wish to apply for a certificate of eligibility or a change of status of a Spouse of a Japanese national. Until now, you had to obtain it from the municipality of your legal domicile, but from now on, you can obtain it at the municipality where you are registered as a resident in addition to that of your official place of domicile.
