What if I changed my employment under the “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Service” Visa?

If you have changed your employment, you must notify the Immigration bureau of the change.

There are two ways to proceed after filing your notification

① Apply for the Issuance of Certificate of Eligibility for Employment and have it verified beforehand that the activity you are performing at the new company is permitted under your current residence status. Please note that in this case, you can only engage in the new work at your new employer after a Certificate of Eligibility for Employment has been issued. For the employer, the Certificate of eligibility for Employment provides peace of mind, as it allows them to check in advance whether the foreign resident can be asked to work in that position.

② At the time of applying for the extension of the period of stay, you should submit the documents from the new company and verify whether the activity you are engaged in at the new company is permitted under your current residence status.

An application for extension of stay can be filed from three months before the expiration date.

Please keep your resignation certificate and employment contract as they are required for both processes.
